Taking care of your child’s teeth

We’d like to offer a few tips for brushing your child’s teeth.  First, begin brushing your child’s teeth/mouth at least as soon as the first tooth erupts.  You’ll want to use water or a fluoride free toothpaste until the child is 2 years of age.  Children over two years should use a pea-sized amount of paste and be supervised as you don’t want your child to swallow any toothpaste.  Teeth that touch should be flossed daily in order to prevent cavities from forming in between their teeth.   Children can be very ambitious and will want to brush their own teeth.  Supervision is recommended until about 7 years old when children develop the coordination skills to brush on their own.  Disclosing solution (available at your drug store) is a useful aide that shows the child areas where teeth haven’t been brushed and creates a fun learning experience for the child.
