![]() Why Should I See a Dentist? I Don’t Have Teeth! Dentures are a complete tooth replacement and it would make sense to many people that if you have no teeth, there is no need to see a dentist. After all, a dentist offers treatments such as fillings, crowns and extractions right? Your dentist does perform those treatments, however, there is a lot more to what we do in your exam appointment. Every exam appointment consists of an oral cancer screening, an evaluation of occlusion (your bite), evaluation for fungal, yeast and other oral infections. If you wear partials or dentures, we look to see if your dentures or partials fit properly and have the correct adaptation for your mouth. We will also take a panoramic film in order to make sure that there are no diseases specific to bone or cancer present. It is important to note that if the fit of your dentures changes over time there may be a few simple treatments that can be done to improve the fit. However, sometimes a change in fit of your dentures is indicative of an infection that should be diagnosed and treated. At your exam appointment your dentures can be cleaned and polished in order to remove any built up stain and you will be rest assured that you are doing all that you can to maintain optimal oral health. –Authored by Robin Hogan, DDS
