The
Importance
of Dental
X-Rays
Do you ever
wonder why
dental
radiographs
(x-rays)
need to be
taken when
you go to
the
dentist? A
thorough
dental
radiographic
examination
is very
important to
verify that
you have
excellent
oral
health.
Several of
the diseases
of the teeth
and
surrounding
tissues
cannot be
detected
through an
oral
examination
alone.
Radiographic
examinations
may detect
small areas
of decay
between the
teeth or
below
existing
restorations.
They may
reveal
infections
in the bone
as well as
periodontal
(gum)
disease.
Developmental
abnormalities,
dental
abscesses,
cysts, and
even some
types of
tumors may
be
detected.
Your dentist
evaluates
your
individual
needs with
respect to
how often
radiographs
need to
taken in
order to
ensure your
wellness.
